What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy is focused on the development, maintenance, or rehabilitation of skills which impact an individuals ability to participate in activities which they want or need to do as part of day to day life.

Occupational Therapists (OT’s) support individuals with all types of disabilities ensuring that their individual Occupational Therapy focus is meaningful to them.

At LOTS our team can support in a variety of ways, including:

Service level agreements within schools.

Some examples of  OT’s input within a school are handwriting support, classroom regulation strategies, 1:1 interventions, classroom audits, support with sensory circuit implementation and fine and gross motor groups.

Assessments and Sensory Assessments

These can be facilitated in our clinic setting , or the individuals home or educational setting. Both assessment types involve the use of standardised and non-standardised assessments to inform outcomes, personal to an individual and their needs.

1:1 interventions following assessment

These are individualised sessions based on assessment outcomes. Goals are developed with the individual to ensure goals are meaningful to them. Examples of interventions could be; interoception sessions, self regulation strategies, oral motor development and fine and gross motor development.

Training

We offer training opportunities to parents/ school staff. Training can include how to support sensory regulation at home and in an education setting, handwriting support and sensory circuit advice.  We also facilitate1:1 coffee mornings with parents to discuss individual cases.
